Question 1

Which Mac apps do not require a subscription?

Accepted Answer

2 of the Mac apps on MacBid can be bought outright or used for free. Each one's price model is read from the app's own pricing page or from the App Store rather than assessed by us, and every listing links to the page that establishes it. Apps whose pricing could not be established are left out of this list rather than assumed to be one-off purchases.

Question 2

How is a one-off purchase told apart from a subscription?

Accepted Answer

From what the app's own pricing page says. A stated recurring price — an amount next to a month or a year — makes it a subscription. Explicit one-off language, or an explicit denial of recurrence, makes it a one-off purchase. A page that says neither leaves the app unclassified rather than guessed at, which is why the count here is smaller than the board.
